Human. That to me is the one word that makes all of us the same and different at the same time. Now that I have started thinking about what it means to be human, it amazes me how far we have come in our existence. But defining humanity can be a very challenging thing for me because there are so many answers from different perspectives. I am hoping that by the end of this unit I will have a more clear understanding of it and learn a lot about what it really means to be human.
I think of hope as finding a light in the dark and holding onto it. Sometimes it's the only thing that keeps us going and when we don't have it we break. I know many other people will have different opinions about it but I really want to find out where and how others can truly find hope. In this unit, I want to hear others beliefs on hope and what situations gave them hope so I can understand the different ways we perceive it and how it makes us unique. How do you define humanity and hope?
Well Simran, I think I'm going to try my best to answer your question...
ReplyDeleteMy definition of humanity is defined by using hope, that is, the ability to hope. It ties along with the thoughts that only humans are capable of thought, love, emotion, etc. In my opinion, hope is one of those special emotions that only we can possess.
However, my definition of hope is very similar to yours. When I think about it, i define it as a single aspect of life that keeps you away from death. Looking at it this way makes me feel like most people in the world have hope, you know?
Yea I see what you are saying. But I think just because we all have hope doesn't mean that our perception's are all the same. It's just like the fact that we are all human but incredibly unique in our own ways which makes us the same and different at the same time. I also liked how you defined humanity by hope;its something only humans experience.
ReplyDeleteSimran, I like where you want to go with this unit. Getting a clean cut definition of humanity and hoope is impossible, because everyone has a different opinion, but if we study people who display alot of hope and situations that require hope and concern the well-being of humanity, then I think we can start to understand the two words better.
ReplyDeleteNikki and Hannah did a nice job feeding off of your initial post. My question to you (as well as to most everyone else) is: where will you begin? How do you think you'll start to "define humanity"? Is looking at hopeful people enough? What else will you need to explore?
ReplyDeleteI think that just looking at hopeful people won't be enough. However, it will give me a sense of how different humans are and get a sense for how they might feel. We will also need to explore other things in the world beside humans to see the differences. Also, now that I've learned about Ubuntu, everything in the world is related and contributes to the way everything else is. There are so many places where we can begin on defining humanity. But I think I'll start by comparing humans to the world.
